Answer any two of the following questions

1. Discuss the contributions of Comte and Durkheim towards a positivist approach.

2. Describe the empiricist approach to the understanding of social reality.

3. Discuss Martin Heidegger's contribution to the phenomenological approach to Sociology.

4. Distinguish between basic and applied social research. Illustrate with suitable example their use in different contexts.

5. Discuss the relevance of field work research in sociology.

Section-B

Write a research report on any one of the following topics in about 3000 words.

(i). Social and economic significance of pilgrimage.

(ii). Main challenges of street vendors in India.

(iii). Social migration impact on family, kinship and marriage.

You can write this report based either on review of literature, or data collected from the primary sources.

For review of literature you are to select either two books or four research articles published recently on the selected topic of your choice. Write a review article focusing on the location of the study, methodology followed and the main findings of these studies.

For the primary source you are to collect two case studies and write a report on the selected topic in a comparative framework. While writing the report spell out clearly the objectives and the problems of the study and

problematise the issue within the existing/available literature,

elaborate your observations, finding and conclusion coherently, and

make proper referencing at the end.

निम्नलिखित प्रश्नों में से किन्हीं दो के उत्तर दीजिए।

1. प्रत्यक्षवादी दृष्टिकोण में कॉम्टे और दुर्खाइम के योगदान की चर्चा कीजिए।

2. सामाजिक यथार्थ को समझने के अनुभववादी दृष्टिकोण का वर्णन कीजिए।

3. समाजसास्त्र के सांवृत्तिक उपागम (दृष्टिकोण) के प्रति मार्टिन हाइडिगर के योगदान पर चर्चा कीजिए।

4. आधारी और अनुप्रयुक्त सामाजिक शोध (अनुसंधान) के बीच अंतर बताइए। विभिन्न संदर्भों में उनके प्रयोग की उपयुक्त उदाहरणों सहित स्पष्ट जानकारी दीजिए।

ii) भारत में रेहड़ी-पटरी वालों की प्रमुख चुनौतियाँ

iii) परिवार, नातेदारी एवं विवाह पर प्रवसन का समाजिक प्रभाव

साहित्य की समीक्षा के लिए आपको अपनी पसंद के चयनित विषय पर हाल ही में प्रकाशित किन्हीं दो पुस्तकों या चार शोध लेखों का चयन करना होगा। समीक्षा लेख अध्ययन की अवस्थिति तथा इन अध्ययनों में प्रयुक्त प्रविधि और इन अध्ययनों के मुख्य परिणामों को ध्यान में रखते हुए लिखिए।

प्राथमिक स्रोत के लिए आपको दो केस अध्ययन संग्रहित करने होंगे और चयनित विषय-वस्तु पर अपनी रिपोर्ट तुलनात्मक ढाँचे में लिखें। रिपोर्ट लेखन के दौरान अध्ययन के उद्देश्यों और सम्मुख आने वाली समस्याओं को स्पष्ट रूप से व्यक्त करें और

चयनित मुद्दे को वर्तमान / उपलब्ध साहित्य के दायरे में एक समस्या के रूप में अभिव्यक्त करें;

अपने प्रेक्षणों, निष्कर्षों एवं परिणामों की प्रस्तुति संसक्त रूप से करें; और

अंत में उचित संदर्भ (बिंदुओं) का उल्लेख करें।
